Backstory
Akari was born to Lord Toyonaga Naonobu, the daimyo of Tsurugi province, a small province sandwiched between Azuchi and Echigo. She had a twin brother, Ryuunosuke. Their mother, Lady Tamako, Lord Naonobu's legal and only wife, died during childbirth.Due to the ancient belief of that time that twins were considered bad omen, Akari was supposed to be killed off, since she was the younger twin, and a girl. However, in an attempt to honor his wife's death wish, Akari's father took his wife's lady in waiting, Marika, as his concubine so she could pose as Akari's mother. In order to hide the truth further, Akari was sent to her maternal family's clan, Tohdo, to be raised before eventually returning to Tsurugi at age 13. Despite living separatedly, her father and brother would visit her frequently.During her time in Tohdo Castle, she showed considerable intelligence and talents in espionage, and began to train intensively as a kunoichi under her uncle's concubine, Lady Yuna, alongside her cousin, Lady Yuna's son, Shuuhei.Shortly after returning to Tsurugi, the siblings discovered their true identity as twins. To protect Akari, Ryuunosuke made her work as his shadow so he could keep a close eye on her. He also appointed his own personal guard, Suwa Kazunari, to be her guard instead, much to Suwa's initial dismay. Akari would then gained respect from four bandits whom she defeated in a confrontation, resulting in them to pledge their lives for her. This event impressed Suwa in the process, and he eventually plegded loyalty to her too. The four bandits, Kogane, Tetsu, and brothers Jun and Hiro, entered the castle and trained to be Akari's guards and servants, with Kogane stood out with his talents in herbs and medicinal knowledge.

When the twins were 15, their father suddenly died of mysterious sickness, Ryuu was made the new clan head. At one time when Ryuu was leading a war, a retainer attempted to poison Akari, believing she was cursed. Kogane and the castle's physician managed to create antidote, but due to the strength of the poison, Akari's internal organs were damaged, and she was rendered with weak health, dependent on continued use of antidotes.When they were 21, Ryuu was killed in a battle. His death dealt a heavy blow to Akari. Since Ryuu didn't get married and had heir, and there was no other Toyonaga male, Akari claimed the leadership of the clan of her own, against the male-centric tradition; supported by her adoptive mother, Suwa, and other loyal retainers. Remaining neutral in the war torn nation, she sustained their clan's growth by building business relationship with foreign traders.

Two years into her leadership, she rescued Yui, her cousin, from an unfortunate forced marriage, and later, gave shelter for two women who claimed to come from the future; Sena and Miko. The four women quickly bonded, eventually becoming adoptive sisters.
Traits and Skills
As a sengoku born princess, she usually acts reserved and gracious in front of people. However, she gets nervous easily, and also quite clumsy; prone to trip on her own and fall. Once she's close to someone and feel like she could trust them, she'd begin to show her true self, a mischievous, playful and free spirited young woman.Akari is not very good with horse riding, and particularly hates taking palanquin; although she has to take it for formal meetings with other daimyos. She would, however, take horse ride if long, more casual trips are necessary. In general, she prefers to refrain from traveling too much, partly due to her health condition. In the past, she usually rode with her brother. She is a good singer, but a terrible dancer.

As a ninja, Akari is an excellent fighter and a talented archer. Being a female, who generally has smaller stature than men, she is pretty agile. However, she's not really good at swordsmanship, or any other weapons, although after Ryuu's death, she began to wield his sword and trained with it to be better.Akari is usually seen either with her sisters, or with her personal guards; particularly Suwa, her right hand man. Akari has a male, gray shorthaired cat named Gon, who was a stray around the castle when she adopted him.
Trivias
• Akari is afraid of ghosts, but too embarrassed to admit it.
• She hates bugs except butterflies; in fact, she loves butterflies so much it becomes her motif.
• As the aftermath of Ryuu's death happening on a rainy day, Akari developed fear of rain, especially if it's thunderstorms. She'd curl up and cover her ears in fear during rain, unable to move. She also suffers from nightmares during those rainy days and few days surrounding Ryuu's death anniversary, and would occasionally sleepwalking. It'd only start to get better after her sisters live with her.
• Akari is very passionate about cooking, and this is why she is the one cooking for the whole castle despite being a noble lady.
• Akari has a scar on her left shoulder from rescuing Yui. Her personal guards (Suwa, Jun, Hiro, Tetsu and Kogane), Shuuhei, and sisters are the only people who knew about the scar.
